The Competitive Performance Company (CPC) kicked off the competitive season with a trip to Shock Dance Challenge in Niagara Falls. It was a weekend to remember for everyone from our first-time competitors to our beautiful graduates.
Throughout the weekend, studio standings were tracked. While we were competing with more than half a dozen high-quality studios from Southern Ontario, we scraped, scratched and crawled out way to second overall studio by the end of the weekend!
Along the way, we saw many of our dancers take home Emerald awards (the highest medal a dance can achieve) and category wins. We also won 23 overall top-10 awards, including three first overall awards (intermediate solo, intermediate duo/trio, senior duo/trio). We also earned 16 special awards, from I Want To Join celebrating the pure joy of our tap group, to Captivating Performance for one of our beautiful and detailed contemporary pieces.
Three of our routines were recognized for the top choreography scores of their respective sessions: Sweet Caroline (junior open; chor. Charlotte Vanderlee); My Mind is a Mirror (intermediate open duet; chor. Avery Howard); and Break the Chain (senior open; chor. Jordyn Winger). Our intermediate/senior open line, Oh Please Let Me Dream (chor. Charlotte Vanderlee) was also awarded an Adjudicator’s Choice award for choreography.
Our dancers Brooke, Bria, Max, Kaitlyn M., Rachel and Kiera were awarded scholarships for their efforts and achievements. Our “almost-alumni” Andy Gorzo also came in second in the 13+ improv challenge.
Finally, Oh Please Let Me Dream and Choose to Rise Again (junior contemporary; chor. Jordyn Winger) were selected for the senior and junior dance-off. Oh Please Let Me Dream came in second, while our junior contemporary dancers were named the 12-and-under champions!
Bravo to all dancers, teachers, choreographers and our ever-supportive families. Next stop: Dance Canada in Blue Mountain!
